Some of Botswana's most useful plants

The Useful Plants Project (UPP) in Botswana aims to help conserve plant species that are most beneficial to the wellbeing of local people.

The rural communities involved in the project are from Tsetseng (Kweneng District -west of Gaborone), Pilikwe (Central District - north of Gaborone) and Shaikarawe (North West District). The collaboration with the local people is though Community Trusts in the villages.

Working with local communities the project has selected and worked on the following species, highlighted because of their importance:

• Adansonia digitata
• Artemisia afra
• Bauhinia petersiana
